as a further enhancement, hyatt suggested I generalize this behaviour and add it 
as a method to all trees (enhanced keyboard navigation is cool!)

By using 06-26-09-M17 commercial build and compare with Communicator 4.7:
I did see the "dots selection" (not the highlight) move to the typed 
newsgroup.....but, I didn't see this behavior in Netscape 6.0. Reopening this 
bug.

By using 07-24-09-M17 commercial build:
I still don't see any changes when I type the newsgroups name from the subscribe 
dialog newsgroups field. Reopening this bug again and Ccing mscott since Seth is 
in sabbatical.

possible relnote for beta2 because typedown can hose you if in a large newsgroup
tree

nominating beta3:
Typedown seems to match if in a small newsgroup tree, but if you try typedown
matching in a large group list (like the one on our main "news" server aka
"pixie") you run into some pretty bad behavior. Some effects seen so far (may
need separate bugs, I'll investigate more):
1.  Particularly on a slower machine, matches one letter at a time (slooowly)
then readjust the tree for the next letter.  This is okay for the first couple
letters, but if it involves a group name nested down somewhere you're text field
gets messed up. Heaven help you if you misspelled the group name.
2.  If you get in a bad situation from #1, you can't correct or redo the text
field-- highlighting it to replace text or trying to backspace in the group name
text field causes a ui block, appears to hang.  Eventually I could cancel after
clicking on Cancel and waiting a very long time. 
3.  Once caught in a bad way in subscribe, when I finally could dismiss the
dialog, task manager showed mail task not responding... for a long time, I
assumed a hang and ended task.
