If I drag a HTML file or a PNG file from my Desktop to my browser, I usually get a recent random page from history (as far as I can tell) instead of the file I drag'n'dropped.

I can't quite come up with a simple test case, as it appears to depend on something I don't know. Some combination of opening tabs, going forwards/backwards in history, changing tabs, and occasionally trying a drag'n'drop seems to do it (in a clean profile, currently nightlies). But after I've been using the browser for a while, it seems to always happen.

I'm not really clear on how a d'n'd would manage to load a page from history, and yet it happens. [Perhaps the page I'm getting is related to a previous dnd attempt that partially failed or something?]
That sounds vaguely plausible (in an "I don't know code" way), in that when dragging images from the Finder to Camino broke, it broke because a "drag-ended" bit of code didn't get called anymore.

See bug 370721 for the discussion of that bug (which still exists on the trunk, because the same "broken" code got copied over and we didn't patch it for several reasons).
Testing this with a Camino trunk build: I always get the same page out of my history, which is the last page I visited in the previous session.
The test file used is a very simple html page with no links or whatever.

If anyone has more information about ways to test this bug, I'd be grateful. I'm not able to reproduce it here.

Dolske, can you reproduce it reliably enough to show me in person?

I can't reproduce it anymore. Not in Camino trunk build (2007081520) and not in Minefield (2007081522).
Yeah, I don't seem to be able to do it now either. I'll close this as WORKSFORME now, and reopen if it pops up again.

Gah. I caught this happening again today with a trunk nightly (Gecko/2007082804, when dragging a text file into the browser window.

Hrm, any hints on better STRs from that latest hit, dolske?
I've seen this pretty often, usually when I drag something from the favicon in a tab to somewhere else (such as the bookmarks toolbar).

I can reproduce this in
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.0.6pre) Gecko/2008122504 GranParadiso/3.0.6pre

Tried to drag a file from a Finder window into a file upload widget and got an old page from history loaded into the browser window instead.

Interestingly, a little earlier tonight I tried to drag a character from the OS X Character Palette into a text box and when I released the mouse I got a URL pasted in instead of the character I was dragging (and the URL was the same page I later got with the file drag).

I have the same bug, almost every time I drag a local html file onto Firefox (new tab, new window,... all the same).
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.0.10) Gecko/2009042315 Firefox/3.0.10
I still regularly (but not reproducibly) get this in 1.9.2 when dragging links from other apps (e.g. Colloquy) :/

Please reopen if this is still occurring.
