Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20070725 Firefox/2.0.0.6
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20070725 Firefox/2.0.0.6
When the session restore prompt appears, clicking the 'x' to close the window forces a new session to start.
This may not be a bug, but it would be nice if clicking the 'x' just closes Firefox, with the prompt appearing again the next time Firefox opens.
A good example of wanting this option to NOT open Firefox: I'm at work and i click on some Help file link which is actually a web hyperlink. I have 20 tabs of porn open from my last Firefox session. I want to keep those porn tabs open at work, and i don't really want to open the link from the Help file.
Another example: My computer is really slow, and restoring a session with 30 open tabs would take forever, even if i hit "Esc" to try and stop the pages from loading. But i want to save my tabs for later viewing.
*NOTE: I usually kill Firefox in Task Manager because i want to save my tabs but often have multiple Firefox windows open.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Kill Firefox in Windows Task Manager.
2. Open Firefox.
3. Hit the 'x' in the upper right corner of the window.
Actual Results:
Firefox opens a new session, losing all previously opened tabs.
Expected Results:
It would be preferable for Firefox to not load and present the 'session restore' window the next time Firefox is opened.

I just realized a work-around for this problem is by killing the 'session restore' window in Task Manager. But for those people who are not as tech-savvy, it might be nice to have the option of killing Firefox from loading without losing previously viewed webpages, especially with almost every new piece of software auto-opening webpages from within the program itself.

Noli: Session Restore really isn't designed to do what you want. The official solution would be to set Firefox to always "show [your] windows and tabs from last time" in the options which will do just that without any prompt at all. Users really shouldn't see the prompt at all if in any way possible (because ideally we shouldn't ever crash).
So, I'd recommend you to install an extension which suits your needs, e.g. Session Manager <https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2324> which allows you to always start up with a blank window but still being able to manually restore the previous session afterwards, or Save Session <https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/4199> which defaults to not save anything unless you tell it to.
