User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-GB; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20070725 Firefox/2.0.0.6 Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.6 (20070728) Hi, Made the transition towards Thunderbird today. I imported mail from a Eudora 5.2 installation and noticed that the outbox hadn't been imported (and maybe trash although this isn't so important). I found a workaround solution by moving all the outbox to a new mail folder. Thunderbird had no problem importing all the mail this time around. Maybe there is/was a problem with the Eudora files to start with ? Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce Steps to Reproduce: 1. On installation of Thunderbird or inside the program run the import Wizard. 2. Select mail. 3. Choose Eudora and import mail from an existing Eudora installation. Actual Results: The Out folder of Eudora wasn't imported. Expected Results: Import the Out folder of Eudora. After using the quick fix described in details the problem seems solved. Perhaps this is due to a problem with the Eudora files that stops Thunderbird importing mail properly.
Never tried it, but it isn't being smart and putting them in the Local Folders > Unsent folder is it? (The tb equivalent of outbox.)
Just made the transition from Eudora 7 (last version) to 8.0.0b.1 in Windows XP. My outbox did not get converted - at least I can't find it. The Sent and UnSent boxes are empty. How can I recover these messages? There were only about 20 of them but they are important. (I don't quite see how to do what is mentioned above).
The above suggestion was to look in the account "Local Folders". There is a folder named Unsent under it, does it contain the messages?
Unfortunately, as I mentioned in my message, the sent and unsent folders are both empty - so I have still not been able to get back my outbox messages. There is an out.pmg file in the Eudora directory. Another import problem is that after upgrading to Eudora 8 many imported messages became "unread" although they had been read. I've been looking at this other issue more carefully: After importing/upgrading the first time I click on a message folder all those messages that were sent by me become labeled as "unread" and the folder then gets highlighted (bold) as having unread contents. This does not happen until I click on the folder in question. It seems that I have to go through by hand and change this for each of the 10's of thousands of messages in my Eudora folders. The "message/change status/mark as read" returns "not implemented" so I do not see how to do this automatically. Stephen.
(In reply to comment #3) > Just made the transition from Eudora 7 (last version) to 8.0.0b.1 in Windows XP. To Stephen Ross: Eudora 8(Project name : Penelope) is not Product=Thunderbird, although Penelope is based on Thunderbird. Eudora related issue is handled in bug with Product=Penelope in bugzilla.mozilla.org. Search and report problem with Product=Penelope, please. Eudora related issue will be resolved on Eudora beta first, and it'll be automatically resolved on Thunderbird if Core module(common module) is modified, and it'll be ported to Thunderbird if specific code for Thunderbird is required. I believe your problem report to Penelope will help Thunderbird user who wants to import Eudora mails to Thunderbird. See http://wiki.mozilla.org/Penelope for current plan of Penelope. See http://eudorabb.qualcomm.com/showthread.php?t=9902 for Eudora/Penelope forum. I think Eudora/Penelope forum is better place to discuss problem or request help.
TiLung, import works for me using thunderbird trunk and eudora 7 account. except for the issue described in bug 271403
I encountered the same problem upgrading from Eudora 4.3.2 (in Windows XP) to Thunderbird (2.0.0.9). All folders were converted (and marked unread) _except_ for the outbox, which was not transferred over at all.
I also had this problem. I just recently (2/3/08) migrated from Eudora 6.1 to TB 2.0.0.9 and the Outbox wasn't imported. ( Out.mbx, Out.toc ) Not a Penelope problem because I installed and imported all Eudora 6.1 addresses and mail with TB. But... I thought I was having a problem with TB not checking some of my mailboxes, so I installed Penelope after uninstalling TB. Penelope found the TB data and started using that. I'll try the work around, but since I've already moved some mails around and recieved some mail, I'll be deleting all the Eudora mailboxes and mail ( after zipping it all, of course ) except Out, in case the importer wants to duplicate all the mail I've already imported. p.s. tried searching for this on the Penelope Bugzilla, but search didn't find it as far as I could tell
Follow up... I deleted all the email from Eu 6.1 except for the Out, created a new folder in Eu 6.1 called Newout and moved all the Out mail to Newout. I fired up Penelope, and Imported mail only from Eudora. When that was finished Penelope had a folder under Local Folders named Eudora Mail with In, Junk, Newout, Out, Junk as subfolders. I subsequently moved Newout to my Archives folder and deleted the new Eudora Mail folder with the In, Out, Junk and Trash subfolders. After sleeping on it, I decided to try a little experiment. I fired up 6.1 again, copied 1 mail from Newout, to each of the In, Out, Junk, and Trash folders, and deleted the Newout folder. Now 6.1 only contains 4 mails. Start up Penelope, and Import mail only from Eudora and the same Eudora Mail Folder appears under Local Folders with the In, Junk, Out, and Trash subfolders. Both the In and Out imported with their 1 email each intact. Junk and Trash were empty. (Duh, Junk deleted, email was over the retention limit, and Trash emptied when I closed 6.1! ) Maybe the problem isn't with Importing the mail only, maybe the problem is with importing everything at once? (Accounts/Personalities, etc.) and it doesn't know what account to stick the Out box under? Grrrr, I feel one more experiment coming on... Heh, that was a quick one. I copied my Eudora 6.1 installation to another computer and ran it once to verify the emails were still in the In and Out boxes. and in case it needed to make registy entries. I then installed TB 2.0.0.9 on the new system and imported everything from the Auto Import prompt that appears on fresh install. Results: 1 email in the Local folders Inbox and couldn't find the Outbox email in any folder or account. Next tried to manually Import mail ( TB doesn't have an Import everything option like Penelope ) Results: Import created a Eudora Mail folder in the Local Folders account containing In, Junk, Out, and Trash subfolders. In and Out contained the single emails they were supposed to. Conclusion: Auto first startup import everything not working properly. Manual Mail import working properly. p.s. DOH! there is no separate Penelope Bugzilla. Going to cgi?Product=Penelope and typing "outbox" in Search brings up this bug header. Heh, I'm still new here...
More Followup: Uninstalled TB 2.0.0.9 from new machine and deleted files from "C:\Documents and Settings\PJW\Application Data" Installed Eudora-8.0.0b2.en-US.win32.installer.exe ( Penelope ) Results were the same as fresh install of TB2.0.0.9 I describe above. Conclusion: Penelope has the same problems Auto first startup import everything not working properly. Manual Mail import working properly.
This problem has been addressed as part of the Penelope project's importers. Eudora 8.0.0b3 has the fix.

I'm going to mark this 'Works For Me' as it works for me in the latest Penelope (Eudora 8) build, which is a Trunk build.
