found while using opt comm bits, 2000.05.12.08. this problem (signing onto the HTML Writers' Guild interactive site) is at its worst on linux, somewhat annoying on winNT, and [oddly] non-existent [so far] on Mac. to repro: 1. go to the above url, http://interact.hwg.org/cgi-bin/WebX 2. use "Mozilla Testing" for the name field, and "123" for the password field (no quotes for either, o'course). 3. click Login button. results: a. on linux, i get a Confirm (Yes, Never, No to save the username/passwd) dialog. regardless of what i click (and often before i even have a chance to respond to the Confirm one), the extrawide Security Warning dialog appears. then another Confirm dialog appears. and another. and another. ad infinitum. i end up killing my browser session because it gets so annoying. b. on winNT, i get a Confirm (Yes, Never, No to save the username/passwd) dialog. regardless of what i click (and often before i even have a chance to respond to the Confirm one), the extrawide Security Warning dialog appears. then another Confirm dialog appears, and another. not as bad as on linux (only 3 copies of Confirm dialog), but still annoying. c. on Mac, i get a Confirm (Never, No, Yes) dialog, and am not interrupted by the Security Warning dialog.
I'm not seeing this behavior at all (on windows) with a tree that I pulled this morning. So I'll mark it as works-for-me. If you can still reproduce it on monday, reopen and I'll investigate further. But what is this new dialog that you get on almost every form submission -- "Any information you submit is insecure and could be observed by a third part." Who's putting this up (it's not me). Doug, is this yours? Sarah, you might want ot open a separate bug about this new dialog saying that it is annoying if it occurs on every form submission.
