Security problem or not. After a few months of downloading mail from MS live.nl (hotmail ?) today for 2 computers i have, i got the "negative vibes.." error, and is asked to enter my password. Doing so results in the same error, and the question to enter a new password. Normal entering of the live.nl site is without problem, with the same password. Actual Results: SCARED Feel really REALLY feared, since an houre before i had a remark on a forum about the fact that when Thunderbird checks for mail there, my computer stops completely with responding for six seconds, and that i had set TB to check only once an hour for that. 4 months OK, and within an hour of such remark i got cut off...
Erik: I found this information in one of the forums, it sounds as if this is a known issue. This is not a security sensitive bug, I unchecked the box. People with ‘negative vibes’ errors: I was able to fix this on my copy of Thunderbird by going to Tools -> Extensions, then highlighting Hotmail and clicking Update, and then installing the updated version. Note that the error will show if Hotmail is having server problems.
Thanks for fast reply. Checking for updates for the Webmail and Hotmail extensies was the first thing i did, and was negative. Unchecking for security severity is not totally understandable for me, as the sequence of events is to tight as i have experienced it, but from your point of view i can expect this to be of no importance. For now, i can just wait and see if indeed this is a "simple" server error, althouhgh it has been like this for many hours now. Also i really cannot understand why TB asks for it directly, even before contact trough the internet has been accomplished, and also asks for a new password after "sending the passward has failed". Even when i pull out my connection still TB asks for my password...
For one computer, with Windows 98SE was used: TB Versie 188.8.131.52 (20070509) Webmail extension: 1.0.17 Webmail-hotmail extension: 1.0.23 For the second computer, with Windows XP SP2 was used TB Versie 184.108.40.206 Webmail extension: 1.2.3 Webmail-hotmail extension: 1.2.3 Both have exact the same error, while both worked fine a day before.... Fot the Window 98SE i have tried to install updates anyhow, but no result in the end.
What now happens: After start of TB, is aked to enter my password. I do that, and check the "remember on this machine" box. OK "Sending of password failed. Mailserver localhos replies: bad vibes from (my_username)@live.nl" OK "enter new password" Which i do not, since my password works fine at the site. The asking also happens if i disconnect my networkkabel.
Yesterday, an automatic update of TB installed version 220.127.116.11 on my Win 98SE system, while prior updates didn't exceed Version 18.104.22.168 (20070509). After that, checking for Webmail and Webmail-Hotmail extensions ended in installing Webmail v. 1.2.3 and Webmail-Hotmail V. 1.2.5. Trying to accomplish maildownload did't work: After asking my password and entering that, this time it ends in a "time out" for the server. For both the Hotmail Hotmail Live and Webdav i tried, for i read for some that was a solution.
Please report extension bugs directly to the extension author, where he'll actually see them, rather than here, where he won't. In this case, that would be http://groups.google.com/group/thunderbird-webmail-extension
