Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.9a8pre) Gecko/2007081305 Minefield/3.0a8pre ID:2007081305 The default download dir is where most files will get saved to I guess. If you have completed downloads, then you can right click on a download and choose Open Containing Folder. But if you have cleared your download list and want to find the files that you have downloaded, there's no easy way to get to the defaul download dir.
I suppose this is tied in with the Clear Up button (bug 391863).. If it's easy for the user to clear their download history, then this bug is more important. But if they are forced (or encouraged) to keep their download history, then there is less need for anything wrt this bug.
There are 2 dirs for this which doesn't make it that easy. browser.download.dir (a.o. Desktop) browser.download.lastDir (used for saveas from context menu) how whould you explain this to Joe User, with difficult to understand UI, like it could be here or it could be there ?
So, Bug 308073 is going to clear this up a bunch. In fact, I will go ahead and land that now...
there is a bug asking to put something in the dm when there are no entries... so maybe you could unify them: check if the user has the option "download all files to _somedir_" and put in the void dm a link to open the default downloads folder
I'm not keen on adding UI for this. What's the use case that you'd want to clear your history and THEN go to your downloads folder?
Product: Firefox → Toolkit
I'm going to say WONTFIX. I don't see the utility gained by most of our users by exposing this somehow (especially when systems are getting better and better at having places to dump downloads)
