User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20070725 Firefox/2.0.0.6
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20070725 Firefox/2.0.0.6
Firefox itself is fine, it's still responding but any web page you try to load will either halfway load or load fully. If it loads fully, load a few more tab's in the same window and Firefox should slow to a crawl and stop loading any new website all together. The circle will still be spinning like it's trying to load a the web page but at the bottom status bar it will say "stopped." This might take some time but it will eventually happen with Lineage 2 open and Firefox. It just started happening with 2.0.0.6 update, the 2.0.0.4 version works fine. I would guess that it is something with lineage2's gameguard program that's supposed to help prevent cheating but never works and always causes these kind of problems.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Install and run Lineage 2
2.Login to the game, select your character and load the character.
3.Once you're in the game with your character loaded, minimize lineage 2 by clicking alt-tab or the windows key, load lineage2 and it should happen almost every time.
This bug still occurs even with a fresh user profile and default theme. I do not have zonealarm or any firewalls installed, including windows firewall disabled. The only way to fix this problem until it is addressed in the next firefox update is to close firefox completely and reload it, it will happen almost immediately again with lineage 2 running. When lineage 2 is closed, firefox works just like it always has, no problems.
The reason I have posted this bug is I am almost certain it is caused by the new version of firefox, 2.0.0.6. I have 10+ friends in Lineage 2 who all tell me the same thing has happened with their firefox when it updated itself to 2.0.0.6 and they have Lineage 2 running.

I have previously seen a similar bug on OSX and the cause was a problematic extension, so please try launching Firefox in Safe Mode (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode) to exclude extensions and see if that happens
Yes, just ran firefox in safe mode and the problem still happens just as fast as it does in normal mode with lineage 2 running.

The game Lineage 2 and it's counterpart Gameguard have been causing problems not only with Firefox, but also some battery backup software applications. Firefox will always work perfectly as long as gameguard and lineage 2 are not running. The moment that these two applications are run, nothing you can do to Firefox will prevent it from hanging on websites. Unfortunately, I can't figure out if it is the Gameguard application or the actually game itself.

sorry for the poor grammar.
Yes, that was my suspected problem application, gameguard. As you said, I've also noticed that my APC battery backup software does not allow monitoring either when gameguard is running. Thanks for another confirmation of what I suspected all along. I guess I will just have to live with it until a new version of firefox comes out that hopefully will fix the problem. It really only started with Firefox 2.0.0.6.
I have the same problem. Firefox not correctly works if Lineage 2 it is started.

Did anyone tried to downgrade Firefox and test if it works?
I think the problem started when I switched to Interlude Client.
I spoke with Lineage 2 Tech Support and they said that they're aware of this problem, but will not fix it, cause: "I am sorry but LineageII does not support other applications being run while you are playing the game."
Cheap bastards ><

Yeah, right. So, I guess with that silly thinking that Outlook, Trillian, Vent, Xfire, Foobar, mIRC, and AVG virusscan (among others) all not supported by Lineage 2 while it's running either then?? That doesn't make a lick of sense to me when I've been running all of those problems while Lineage2 has been running for years since I started playing and none of them have ever caused any problems with Lineage2 or vice versa.
That sounds like to me that ncsoft is being lazy not wanting to fix this problem. I guarantee that at least 50% of all Lineage2 users are smart enough to be using Firefox over IE and are also having the same problem with Lineage2 (specifically gameguard which I'm almost positive is causing the problem) running.

Oops, "...programs while Lineage2 has been running..." I meant.

GameGuard seems to be very likely StarForce (you know, the copy protection method that resulted to install hidden drivers and occasionally make the system reboot).
So, if the problem is GameGuard and NOT Lineage, they won't fix it, the people responsible for GG won't fix it either and probably the "solution" from the FireFox side is to rewrite so much the program that it will end in something like WaterEel :P
I hope game programers starts to write they own protection systems instead of relying on third party software that is poorly written, and messes with things in the system that they shouldn't.

I've always wondered what gameguard can actually do to prevent any botting or whatever else.
It's a violation of a US citizen's 4th amendment right to unreasonable search to access any personal property on a computer which would make it illegal for gameguard to be snooping around on your system and reporting what it finds back to a third party. Just seems silly not to mention futile that gameguard is even used considering that is causes so many more problems than it actually prevents. Just go into any hunting area in Lineage2 and you will see the never ending botting problem that gameguard is supposedly there to prevent. I really doubt that this gameguard and firefox conflict will be fixed anytime soon as you said since ncsoft refuses to fix it, it's not likely that firefox will be rewritten to fix this problem.

Well as I know GG is not used to hunt down cheats and stuff, but to prevent client usage for the free-shard servers. Actually it guards nothing, but rly causes lots of problems...I'll try to convince them, that they are not right...but I doubt that it will help...

Well...It's a dead number to talk with NC Soft. They told me the following:
"We appreciate your feed back and we're sorry you feel this way. However as we stated it has never been recommended to run other programs while playing Lineage II. "

Wow, talk about being ignorant, but that does sound exactly like something ncsoft would have the nerve to say.
Thanks for looking into it one last time. I figured this bug was going to be very hard to fix, but I never imagined it would be impossible.
With ncsoft's ignorant logic, then it must means that all the windows xp/vista services that are running in the background and most cannot be turned off must be also not recommended to be run with Lineage2. With an attitude like that towards their customers, it's no wonder their NA quarterly reports keep showing less and less subscribers for all their games.

already fixed in Mozilla Firefox 3 RC

This bug was reported on Firefox 2.x or older, which is no longer supported and will not be receiving any more updates. I strongly suggest that you update to Firefox 3.6.3 or later, update your plugins (flash, adobe, etc.), and retest in a new profile. If you still see the issue with the updated Firefox, please post here. Otherwise, please close as RESOLVED > WORKSFORME

I believe that this issue has been resolved with firefox 3.x. I quit playing Lineage2 a few years ago and the free servers that I have tried have not had gameguard causing any problems with firefox. I have changed the status to resolved.
