Profiles are often a source of problems for users, or rather, users see many problems as a problem with their profile. Yet, when one creates a bug for Firefox and one looks at the list of components, one does not see "Profiles" or "Profile Management".

There is a component for this in the system. It is just not made obvious in the interface. Given how important profile issues are to users, it should be.

That may be correct. If so, a name that might mean something to users would be helpful.

Can you provide some examples of bugs that would go in such a component?

I don't know the relevant bugzilla workflow too well, but I fear that if there were a loosely defined "Profile" component then it would get a lot of problems that are tangentially related to profiles or only related because they involve a feature that stores data in the profile.  (just pointing out a potential issue; don't take this as endorsement of or opposition to additions/rearrangements)

What about adding the ability to have a small snippet of descriptive text in addition to and more prominent than the existing long description and/or fixing the component / product browsing interface.  I think timely's been wanting to fix that UI for a while.
Maybe add a search function that indexes descriptions?  or do some robots.txt magic (might require some prettier URLs with internal redirects) to allow Google to index them and provide a site specific Google search box.

btw, keep in mind that the majority of users that report bugs don't ever see the full list and this component is currently in a product that's not in the small list @ enter_bug.cgi

Is "Startup and Profile System" not what you mean?

We already have far too many components... our taxonomy is ridiculous.
