I had similar behaviour (invalid URL message box) with FF IIRC 3.5.x. Recently, the behaviour changed: if FF was not yet running, clicking on a link in Outlook producoed two FF windows: an empty one, and one with a tab containing the requested page. Creating a new empty profile and making it the default startup profile (e.g. "don't ask at startup"==True) stopped even that behaviour. After reverting the default startup profile to my old profile, some transitional effects appeared on first launch: again two windows, but the superfluous window had just minimal screen dimension (150x20 px, approx.) and showed, when maximized, an unexpected toolbar configuration (AdBlock button was visible). On the second launch (and ever since then), everything works as expected. Conclusion: - Unclear ... To me, it looks as if I had inconsistent cache effects due to manual migration of my profile folder back when I switched to a new laptop.
