For years I've simply copied the tbird wintel mbxs over to the linux side of my dualboot machines to synchronize email.

Now, I get all sorts of weird security errors or not enough space or insufficient permissions on mbox dir's and files. Error console shows below:

Error: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED) [nsIRDFRemoteDataSource.Flush]"  nsresult: "0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED)"  location: "JS frame :: file:///usr/lib/thunderbird/thunderbird/components/nsExtensionManager.js :: anonymous :: line 8192"  data: no]
Source File: file:///usr/lib/thunderbird/thunderbird/components/nsExtensionManager.js
Line: 8192

This is a showstopper for me. If I can't sync my email between the two platforms when I do new builds, I'm spluged! Why did you change an interoperably good thing? Why didn't you tell us you were making this change? Even Import can't see the old email for account settings, mboxs, or address books.

I started fiddling about with dropping one file or another at a time to let tbird make a new config file with proper "permissions" or stickybits or EA's or whatever the heck you changed.

But that's gonna take forever. So I have to go backrev and find the last working combo rev's of tbird for wintel and lintel that work, reload all my email, extensions, filters, etc., etc. WHAT A PAIN! This is starting to feel like OUTLOOK for linux! Sheesh!

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.load tbird for windows
2.load tbird for linux
3.cp mbox's from windows tbird to linux tbird dir
4.mbox's show along with errors, dupes, all kinda bs
Actual Results:
I keep getting (4.) above

Expected Results:
The email should flow.

Show me a different way to do the sync between four instances of tbird, two machines and four O/S's and I'll be happy!

Oh, BTW, I checked Security problem below because the Tbird error reports say it's a security problem.
Not a security sensitive issue.
Group: security
the security checkbox hides the bug from all but our exploit-fighting team, probably not what you want to do here since it sounds like you need help straightening this out.

When was the last time you copied the mbox over and had it work? There's nothing that changed from to that affected any of the formats. Knowing the last working version would help point us in the right direction.

The links at http://www.mozilla.org/support/ will take you to support groups and on-line chat that can help get to the bottom of things--and possibly suggest interim workarounds--faster than is likely to happen in a bug report.

I don't think any such change was made, at least not intentionally. Sure you didn't change some parent dir permissions / sticky bit yourself?

From what version did you upgrade?
Version: unspecified → 2.0
