If you make a template for instance and use it to reply to certain emails while you are on vacation it will reply based on the filters you have made, but the issue is that each time it responds to an email it includes either the title or the first part of the incoming email in the outgoing response. So it will be my title of the auto response followed by the mess up by thunderbird in ( ) so if my title for a response was, Sorry I am out of the office, and the first part of the incoming email was, "hey there Bill I got .... the response title would be as follows :

Sorry I am Out of the office (was: hey ther Bill I got..)

I know this may not seem like a big deal to some, but it looks like a messed up reply or bot or some stupid computer glitch and appears to be very spammy and is causing many problems with people who rely on this when they are un available to answer emails. Many clients and support ticket registrants have complained and thought my reply is fake and it has caused many problems.

Please advise me how this may be fixed, but I think it is in the programming somwhere.

Cheers,

Jason

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Make template
2.make filter for auto response
3.download messages
4.check responses in sent mail or make the response go to an email you control and see it for real
Actual Results:
It happened again

Expected Results:
as I said

Nope, just read the above in the details section
It's not the body part, the reply subject is
<subject of the template> (was: <subject of the message replied to>)
yes, I know but this is a big problem, looks like spam. Reply includes the subject from the message replied to. Dumb, it shouldn't do that, why is that added, it is a bug. Anyway to fix that and make it go away??? If so please advise.

Cheers,

Jason
Updating summary...
No way around it short of changing the code and compiling your own copy.

I think there is a valid reason for including the original message subject, if one gets a lot of auto-responds (like during vacation times) you have a way of knowing what it was a response to. On the other hand, I'm not sure using a simple Re: like a normal reply would be all that bad.

Summary: When using autoresponder or replying title/body included in response title → reply with template filter should not include (was: subject) of the message it replies to
I'm having this problem too and I hope the new version of Thunderbird will fix this. If the reply message could jsut show as "Re: (<subject of the message replied to>)" it would be a lot better. Thanks.
My patch in bug 904458 makes it "Auto: <subject of the messaged replied to>".
Depends on: 904458
