See summary.Reproduceable: Always
1. Tell IE7 to make itself the default browser (tools->internet options->Programs)
2. Close IE.
3. Launch Minefield, and answer yes when it asks to be the default browser.
4. Close Minefield.
5. Go to Start->Run, and type an http or https url.

Actual Results: You receive a standard Vista "not found" error message. ("Windows cannot find <url>, make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.")

You'll notice a Firefox.exe process is launched, but doesn't show up onscreen or in the application list.

Expected Results: Minefield should open and open the entered URL.
Likely related to/dupe of bug 369703. It prevents Firefox from setting the default browser in Vista.
If I read that bug correctly, that only applies to certain apps. You should still be able to open urls from the run line or from, say, Thunderbird.
Can you try with other browsers tahan IE? If this problem happens only with IE, I think we know the answer...

Anyway, no problem with Windows XP.
Tim, can you still reproduce with a Firefox 3 RC? Thanks
