For the past few days, I've been seeing problems with popups. On my Mac build, context menus stop working in Composer after a while (once or a dozen times). Instead they flash up and then disappear right away. Other times the context menu will appear and work properly but then when it is dismissed it leaves a white area that isn't repainted. Problem: context menus (and other popups?) are unusable.

I'm not seeing any problems with popup's with 5/17/2000 3:00PM build on WINNT. Don, could you take a look at this problem on the Mac with a recent build?

Talking with rods, he said he gets this on on Windows also, he thinks is an event problem and related to the work mjudge is doing. I will give this to him since I don't know any work besides him and Rod doing work that would make this have a problem.

38393 seems to be the same problem.. or very closely related.
Depends on: 38393

I don't think that this is related to #38393 since mjudge fixed that and this is still broken. I can see this by going into composer, inserted a "named anchor" and then mousing over the "Advanced" button. A tooltip should appear. It appears and then disappears. This sometimes happens with context menus as well (though not as consistently for me). Also, after mjudge's fix, I still see where a context menu disappears and the area beneath it fails to repaint.

Talking with Rod.. this was not fixed as of last night on Windows. Its an event problem.. and he has been working in that area. I have not touched anything there.. and this kinda behavior is event realated. And even if and when windows works.. it still sounds event related.

ok; I can't reproduce my problems with context menus today; I think pinkerton and evaughan fixed these. The other problems mjudge fixed today. As for strange tooltip flashing--that is covered in #39505. Resolving as fixed

asking petersen to retest to see if this is still an issue. A week or so ago there was a bug assigned to either saari or hyatt about context menus not popping up and I think it was fixed, so this may be a fixed problem.

it still happens to me. i still get garbage in the bookmarks popup and when i turn on tooltips in navigator.
Comment 18•24 years ago

I have been having problems with composer crashing when opening on the May 25 builds so I waited to test with the latest May 26th build. I tested this issue on Mac OS 8.5 and Mac 0S 9 systems. From my testing on May 26th (2000052608), I can't get a contextual menu to appear when clicking down in the editor window (Only in OS 8.5). I do, however, get a tooltip label for each menu (show all tags, HTML source, and Edit Preview) at the bottom of the window.
Comment 19•24 years ago
|
||
After double checking, I now get the popup menu (contextual menus) to appear in the Composer window under Mac OS 8.5. All items in menu are displayed and I don't garbage in the menu as described.

i don't see garbage in composer, but i do see it reliably in tooltips in navigator (when they are turned on in the xul) and the bookmarks popup in navigator.

this has gotten even worse for me, all mailnews popups/context menus show up with garbage which makes using the mail compose window difficult at best.

i don't know why this is assigned to mjudge, it should go to someone in the view system in gecko.

Ok, I can see this problem wit the May 30th Mac build. I happens for me with the tooltip labels for mail's toolbar icons. 1) Create a new message in Messengar. 2) Move mouse over the various icons located on Mail's tool bar. 3) The tooltip labels appear empty when displayed.

Can you still reproduce this? There is a bad interaction between tooltips and popup menus, which is covered in another bug, but I'm having trouble just producing a garbage filled menu, or damaged rect that doesn't repaint.

this was a problem with viewManager 1 still being checked in my profile. using viewManager 2 makes all this badness go away. INVALID or WORKSFORME are appropriate resolutions to this, unless we still want to fix it for VM1. anyone? anyone?
Comment 29•24 years ago
|

Well it certainly sounds like a VM1 bug, in which case I'm not fixing it.

I still see a problem as I originally described; reopening bug; updating summary * in Composer, when I bring up a context menu, I pick "undo" and then the context menu goes away but the background doesn't get repainted

Yes, I have a new profile without any changes to the prefs (yet). I did explicitly look for the View Manager pref in the dialog and it is checked (View Manager 2 == true).

I don't see this in recent builds, and even if it still occurs, it sounds like it doesn't fit the latest 'would ya pull it off the wire' criteria, marking nsbeta2-, nominating for nsbeta3

btw, the steps to reproduce this bug are this: * New Composer Page * type some text * Control-Click to open the context menu * pick Undo The context menu will go away but the area beneath it doesn't repaint.
Comment 39•24 years ago
|

When I try, I see this the first time, but subsequent times Undo becomes disabled after selecting it, and the menu remains. reassigning to pinkerton.
