Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.6 (20070728) - Slackware package mozilla-thunderbird-2.0.0.6-i686-1

I open a message from my Maildir using "Open message". The message shows up perfectly in the standalone message window. Yet when I print, or "print preview", I get the raw source of the message.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a message
2. Print
3. Notice that it's wrong

Expected Results:
When Thunderbird prints a message, it should print what's displayed.

It seems to depend on the extension of the file. When I manually copy the message somewhere and call it foo.eml (rather than "210" as it's actually called) printing works.

If Thunderbird knows it's displaying a message, why does the printing stuff start all over again trying to guess the type of the file (and doing it wrong? The "file" command can figure out what it is)

I think a lot of people save messages for reference and print them. Therefore this is a pretty major feature not to work.

Has this been confirmed in a standard Thunderbird as distributed by Mozilla (your build ID mentions slackware)? I don't think I've ever seen that behavior. Not blocking on an unconfirmed bug, please check in the newsgroups or IRC tech support to get help confirming this bug.

How do you open that, exactly? At least in mozilla.org builds, files not ending in .eml can be opened by File | Open saved message
Summary: "Print" prints message source, not rendered view → "Print" prints message source, not rendered view (when file name does not end in .eml)

That's how I opened it. The message looks good in the display window; it's only on Print (or Print Preview) that the problem occurs.

Will try to confirm this in a mozilla.org binary soon.
In comment 3 "in .eml can be opened" should have read "can *not* be opened...".

Sure they can... just change the filename mask to "All files (*)".
Ah, yes, that was me hitting a trunk bug...

Can confirm this now.

Keeping wanted‑thunderbird3+ for now, low priority.

Needs an owner, probably a minor fix once someone figures out what to change.
