While we don't want to force people to register, it's easier to address them and tell them apart from each other if we force them to enter a name. This name could potentially be stored in a cookie so their future posts get the same name.

I have made a commit that allows users to submit a name. It is currently optional.

The name is shown as "Provided name (not registered)". If you need to replace "(not registered)" with something else, we can either "translate" it in the language file or use the smarty "replace" variable modifier.

If you really want to force a name, perhaps some javascript will do, rather than generating a PHP error message?

I think just the fact that the field is there will make most people fill it in. If we find otherwise, we can add the requirement at a later time.

-The name field gets lost in the clutter where it is right now. Give it its own line?
-Make it wider
-Change the label to say "Please tell us your name"

By the way, the UI will change again once we do bug 398486.

Can you make the field left-aligned instead of centered? After that, it's good.

A similar feature was added to Tiki. Please test on http://tiki-trunk.mozilla.com/ to see if it's OK or we improve.
