When a user downloads Firefox or Thunderbird, a new download page gives him post-download instructions (only for Firefox Windows/Mac for the moment).

A dependency bug concerning the localization of banner graphics will be filed later.

Two notes. The "Firefox gear" has been translated as "productos Firefox"
and the "to get started:" as "para empezar:".
Bulgarian [bg] translation is committed in revision 7016.

Shouldn't those strings be browser-dependent?
Rimas, what do you mean with "browser-dependent"? some of these strings are for OSX, others for XP/VISTA, there are comments in the file to indicate it. Depending on the product you download, different strings will be used by the page to describe the installation steps or just display a generic message (for Thunderbird for instance).
I mean there are different dialogs with different strings in, for example, Firefox and IE. Won't there be a collision?

And I'm a little unsure about what to do with Lithuanian translation, as an absolute majority of Lithuanians actually uses English language software (especially the OS)... :(
The installation steps displayed depend on the browser you use to download Firefox. if you are using IE, it will describe an install for somebody using IE with IE dialogues (XP or Vista-like depending on the OS detected), same for Safari. If you are using Firefox to download firefox, you won't get explanations but a mozilla store message since you supposedly already know how to install it.

I think that you should translate the steps in Lithuanian but leave the English strings from the dialogues when they are quotes, like (imagine the French words are Lithuanian) "cliquez sur 'Run file' pour installer le logiciel'.

This way the use gets the message in his language but he can spot in the dialogue box the words in English.
Pascal, maybe we could also detect user's browser language? ;)
well, we use the locale the user downloads to give him installation instructions, so we kind of expect the user understands this language ;) Actually, seeing the page in Chinese if he was thinking that he was downloading firefox/thunderbird in Czech will give him a hint that he clicked on the wrong link on the download page and he will not realize it after lanching the installer ;)
Nah, I mean the page should be in the target language, but screenshots and button captions could probably be in original language. For example, if I'm downloading Lithuanian Fx with English IE, dialogs should be shown in English, but described in Lithuanian.

Well, that's maybe too hard...
ah :) No problem, it will be like that by default. If we put localized screenshots in the /{locale}/img/ folder they are used, but if the script doesn't find screenshots it falls back to en-US screenshots. This will actually be how we will start things for most languages because we haven't found a way to automate screenshot-in-OS creation for all languages, so the plan for now is to progressively create them (hence the fallback mechanism tio en-US images).
But there's also a continuation to that, you know. If I'm using Chinese IE to download Chech Firefox, screenshots should probably be Chinese, but with a description in Chech. :)
What does "Ogio" mean?

Is the page visible somewhere?

There is not a good translation of "download" into Danish, if it is used as a noun, so I would like to reword the sentence to sound better in Danish. But since I don't know the context, I don't know what to write instead.
Ogio is a brand, like Nike or Adidas. 

You can see the current version of the page on mozilla.com when you download Firefox but I put the current state of the future page on the staging server which should give you a good idea of what it will look like :

Changing the URL parameters for the OS or product displays different instructions.
(the page isn't entirely finished, I will use some of the feedback here to refine the script logic where I can)
What does "when prompted" mean in the OSX string "Open your hard drive’s applications folder, and when prompted, drag in the Firefox icon."? 

Does Mac OSX literally ask the user to do something with/to the downloaded file or does the string really only mean the user should drag the .dmg to the application folder once downloading has finished?
When I view that page in Firefox on Windows, the first screenshot is of the Firefox download dialog and the second is of the IE download dialog. It looks strange. IE7 won't let me view the page (certificate error).

Henrik, I'd have to look at this old code but it was a pretty complex mix of js and php because of our global caching system. I mark it on my todo list for the last quarter but I don't have to work on it before October.

I am closing this bug as Invalid because the en-US version is being abandonned for various reasons (not fullfilling its initial purpose of user retention and difficult to maintain). We are working on a new English version that hopefully will be easier to implement/maintain and will have a positive effect on user retention. When we have it done and we have analytics results showing that it has a positive effect on user retention, we may open a new bug.
