How to freeze the pref panel without really trying

open the pref panel (edit->preferences)
select "Internet Search" panel
open the dropdown list (by clicking on it) at the label "Search using"
close the dropdown list without making any selections
select advanced search panel
and now you are frozen. No matter what other panel you now select, the
advanced-panel display will remain current.

steve, methinks this is a dup of bug 39205 --let us know if otherwise.
