IMAP or POP? Both work fine for me on linux/trunk.

Could it be some add-on interfering? If not, can you reproduce with a fresh thunderbird profile?
Bugzilla doesn't find any other bug reports with "NotifyComposeBodyReady" in the comments.

I have Enigmail 0.93.5 (20070802) which came with the latest upgrade of Thunderbird.

Try disabling it (and restarting thunderbird) to see if it makes a difference.

No difference. Moving emails between folders in Thunderbird has been a hairy business with earlier versions too. An earlier bug I reported, where I couldn't move an email more than a couple of times, is now gone (hopefully resolved) but this new one apparently came in its place.
