Long URLs aren't kept together anymore, but wrap over to two lines. Looks like '/ 'and '-' etc. they are treated like word separators. It really looks quote odd IMO. Happens both while composing and while reading received mails. STR: compose a mail to yourself and copy in this text: Yes, the translation should be complete. Test builds can be found at http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-mozilla1.8-l10n/ Also pasting a few bug links should do it...

did this just show up today Magnus? Trunk or branch?

Trunk only. In the STR above, make sure not to include the manual newline before the url. Assuming the display and composition bug are the same I see it at least going back to 2007-07-14. 2007-07-10 is fine. <http://bonsai.mozilla.org/cvsquery.cgi?treeid=default&module=ThunderbirdTinderbox&branch=HEAD&branchtype=match&dir=&file=&filetype=match&who=&whotype=match&sortby=Date&hours=2&date=explicit&mindate=2007-07-10&maxdate=2007-07-14&cvsroot=%2Fcvsroot>

Pretty sure that was the expected result of bug 218580 as fixed by bug 255990. Other than not looking familiar, is it actually a problem? They aren't being broken in the message source, just in layout, so as far as I can tell the only difference is that very long URLs don't require that you scroll horizontally to see what's at the end of them.

Not a problem in that sence, no. The urls work just fine, but it looks very odd. Even quite normal urls can be split so e.g. the url https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=398165 can end up in two parts. I guess you may see it in the bugmail if the window size is suitable.

I guess what I don't see is why the urls should break if the complete url could fit on one line.

This example is a with a quite narrow window, but I guess one could come up with something similar for a normal sized window.

I have a question: If your screenshot's mail is not readable for Western language users, the non-tb users may not be readable the mail without our URL breaker. (Other browsers are breaking URLs, and if they are used for renderer of MUAs, your mail may not be readable.)

Not sure I understand your question...? The url is "readable" I guess, but it looks odd IMO, especially the last line. When composing a mail one get worried the pasted url is broken.

Just for reference, the behaviour is discussed in bug 399321 also.
