This doesn't seem as common as it was in the past, so marking minor. Bug 389502 is a tracker on the remaining issues.

Summary: KB article: Windows error opening Internet shortcut or local HTML file → KB article: Error opening Internet shortcut or local HTML file
- Just say the error message, instead of saying this is a windows issue before it.

- Put a gray background on the error message.

- In file types, does Firefox need to be shut down?

- Use sentences for Tools -> Folder Options ...

- Is this a Windows Vista issue as well? If so do the File Types instructions still apply?

- Needs screenshots.

I'm not on windows, so I can't do screenshots.File Types only apply to Windows XP, not sure if it is a Vista issue.
changed, also added SHOWFOR, for linux+mac I put, "This is a Windows only problem. If you need further help ((Ask a question))."

marking fixed.

I should have been more detailed, than saying "Just say the error message". There are quite a few articles you can read at <http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Error+loading+web+sites> written about error messages. While there isn't a lot of exposition, they state that the text is an error message, and that's what the article is about.

I don't think SHOWFOR is needed. The error message starts with "Windows cannot...". Maybe we should change the name of the article to fit to error message.

BTW, the SHOWFOR tag for Windows is windows.

- There were instances of "URL:" that were changed to "ur<x>l:". They need to be changed back.

- I still see " Show content customized for:". That means there's a SHOWFOR tag somewhere in the article.

ok, I got rid of the showfor, but I can't seem to change ur<x>l to URL, it just goes back when I save it. I've tried three times. :(
Okay, I've filed bug 467018.
One day this article will be in the KB. :-)
Depends on: 467018
Does this only happen with the pref tag around it? if so we should be able to work around this for now and put the article live. Or is it being inserted because it's url: ? if so could try putting the markup for no markup, see if that helps.
still doing it. :-(
the problem is the : following url. Note that trying to change it to url :HyperText etc and URL :HyperText etc. resulted in ur<x>l :HyperText (both lower case. URL HyperText showed up as typed.
Ok, I've hacked it to work by using ur~tc~ ~/tc~l instead of url which does what we want (even if the markup is pretty ugly).

So I'm taking off the dependency on bug 467018 and someone can approve the article.
No longer depends on: 467018
You should probably leave the dependency on so we can remember to go back and fix this article once it's fixed.
Adding back. Dependencies make good reminders. :-) IOW, when bug 467018 is marked as fixed, we get a reminder to remove the workaround from this article.
Depends on: 467018
The {PREF()} tags are still inconsistent.
myles7897, you still around?
myles7897 hasn't been seen in a couple of months, so I'm just going to tweak what's left.

I did more tweaking than I anticipated. Enough that it should be reviewed by someone before going live. Could someone have a look?

No longer depends on: 467018
Reviewed and all looks good. Should of been moved to the KB but I did have to try twice due to a timeout so please move if something went wrong.
