Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727)
Build Identifier: Thunderbird version 2.0.0.6 (20070728)

When starting Thunderbird or using "Get Mail" button, program shows "Connected to mail.comcast.net" in bottom task bar and then hangs displaying running green progress bar. No email is retrieved from two accounts on POP3 comcast server. No error messages. RSS feeds in same configuration of Thunderbird work well as does SMTP outgoing messages.

Program has been working for months with NO CHANGES in settings or software. Outlook Express, however, will retrieve active messages with same server settings but Thunderbird won't.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start program with option to retrieve incomming mail or use GET MAIL buttom
2.Thunderbird hangs after displaying "Connected to mail.comcast.net"
3.Used "Stop" button to terminate POP3 connection after it hangs for 3 minutes without any error messages
Actual Results:
See above

Expected Results:
Get mail should work as it has for months.

Resolution steps taken:
1. Deleted messages from server using Webmail option but could not get new email
2. McAffee Security Suite Email Scanning and Firewall shut down.
3. Sucessfully retrieved messages from mail.comcast.net using Outlook Express
Ditto for the problem described above. I would add that Outlook 2003 SP2 (11.8118.8132 - the latest version I have) works just fine. I am also able to connect with comcast.net mail via their internet server.
having the EXACT same problem as above, can connect and retrieve messages from server from any and all other mail programs ( Outlook-Outlook Express-Web Mail)
but not T-bird, just happened in last three days, before that T-bird worked fine as it had always done.
looks like a lot of others are having the same problem, too, I filed this bug
yesterday... here is the link with replies...

looks like McAfee has a patch that works for some people..

""The patch that McAfee's tech support are suggesting seems to work in most cases: http://download.mcafee.com/products/.../Eml1005_1.exe""
