When I use the attachec HTML file, I click in the first field, then tab or click the second one an alert is displayed. When I click OK on the alert there is not caret, but when I start typing data is entered in the input field.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open html file
2. click on first field
3. tab to next field (or click)
4. click OK on alert
5. start typing -> second field will be changed but no caret visible
Actual Results:  
The second field had the keyboard focus as expected, but no caret visisble

Expected Results:  
Second field should have focus, caret should be visible and the text should be selected

Note that when I code the onfocus event in the element instead of the addEventListener the problem does not occur.

Still REPRODUCIBLE with unzipped installer of  official  en-US SeaMonkey 2.52a1 (NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:55.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/55.0 Build 20170311002651  (Default Classic Theme) on German WIN7 64bit

Please notice that bug 1645546 seems to be a superset of this bug. For me, it only happens with BidiUI enabled.

I find that, for years now, on Windows 10 and I think on Linux as well, sometimes the caret disappears while composing an email in Thunderbird. I think the trigger might be the insertion of an image. At any rate it is a serious problem. For it makes typing hard and the defect is pretty gross.

Another visible effect of the issue: In step (5) no bold frame around right field appears when typing.
