User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; he-IL; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20070802 SeaMonkey/1.1.4 Build Identifier: while installing Bugzilla on Windows Server 2003 64bit, I installed the 64bit version of ActivePerl. the ppm program couldn't find any of the required modules checksetup.pl required in the landfill and theory58S (?) repositories. only after removing it and installing the 32bit ActivePerl could it find them. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.install 64bit eddition of ActivePerl on your win64 2.ppm install Email-Send, or Template-Toolkit, or whatever 3.ppm gives a message that the package was not found (can't remember the exact wording now). Actual Results: sections 2.2.1 and 2.5.1 don't mention anything about win64 Expected Results: it should be noted, at least in section 2.5.1, that on win64 perl 32 should be used my guess is that 64bit perl won't download 32bit modules, but that's just a guess, because i'm not sure how perl works. this wasted some 2 hours of my time, and likely to waste other's time too.
corrected summary to use 32bit Perl.
Summary: relnotes or Bugzilla Guide should note to use 64bit Perl on Win64 too. → relnotes or Bugzilla Guide should note to use 32bit Perl on Win64 too.
I'm not a windows user so i can't confirm this. But on linux there are ways to install compat libraries or multiple arch versions of libraries. Is there no way to do this on windows? i.e. can someone confirm the correct resolution is to go with the 32 bit perl instead of installing other libraries?
Attached patch patchSplinter Review
Need a windows user to confirm this is the right approach - just added a note to say you need 32 bit perl on 64 bit windows in order to follow these instructions.

Attachment #298165 - Flags: review?(documentation)
Comment on attachment 298165 [details] [diff] [review] patch r=me by inspection with a nit. I'd rather say 'install the perl modules as described below'. [I'm not a 64-bit user, so basing this on the bug as filed]
