There is a mozilla forum thread ( http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=478545 ) and tons of other comments and articles about disabling third party cookies that show up in google search results

http://www.google.com/search?q=firefox+third+party+cookies&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-IN:official&client=firefox-a

We should consider providing some information about this on sumo.

http://hype-free.blogspot.com/2006/11/tracking-web-users.html has some good info on why a user might want to fiddle with third party cookie settings, and what the possible impact might be.

there is also some discussion in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=324397 about what to do with this in future releases.
if you get google to do a "search suggest" for "firefox"

"firefox 3rd party cookies" and "firefox third party cookies" both show in the top suggestions.

We should thinking about article titles or other ways to optimize traffic and catch both of these search terms.

I think there'd be enough content here to warrant not just having it part of a "Cookies" article (bug 399507). There should be links between the two.
As I understand it, the basic reason why the UI for it was taken out in Fx2, is because the pref didn't have much affect. Has that changed? Should we put some sort of warning on this article?
CCing dveditz.
Third party cookies are now disabled by default in trunk builds per bug 324397.
