Initially, there was a plan to add a slider to the status bar in bug 389628, but eventually there was "a distinct lack of consensus as to whether it's needed." So it landed without the slider. I'm not sure if we need a slider, but I have a patch since I had implemented it for bug 389628. Hence this bug.

Why is there a <slider> and a <scale> in this patch?

See the screenshot: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=284743. The <slider id="fullZoomScaleShadow"> marks the default value (100) with its disabled thumb.

Could it be possible for the user to add a value on his own. Like Opera?

I use Konquefox for the time being, although it would be nice to have it integrated https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2671

Since now we have Zoom controls that user can customize in to their tool bar. I don't think we need the slider. mark won't fix.
