I am not able to see the issue using the 2009 candidate Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.1.9) Gecko/2007102514 Firefox/2.0.0.9 and comparing to Safari on Mac OS X 10.5 (9A581). Can you kindly attach a screenshot?
Checked out trunk from cvs, problem does not reproduce on it either.
I decided to try launching Firefox in a new account, on the same computer. In this case Firefox did not exhibit this issue, suggesting that this may be a configuration issue. Will investigate.
After some trial and error, it would appear that the issue was font related. I displaced the fonts in the ~/Library/Fonts folder and restarted Firefox and the issue was no longer present. Replacing the fonts and then relaunching Firefox and the issue was still no longer present. Maybe a font cache issue?
The problem started up again. I am suspecting it has to do with the new 'Microsoft C fonts'* ( see http://www.hunlock.com/blogs/Downloading_and_Using_Vista_Web_Fonts for details) I installed, since removing them seems to cure the problem.
Andre-John: Is is OK then based on Comment 6 to resolve this as works for me?
Without the fonts this can be marked as 'works for me', though it is unclear the issue is with Gecko, MacOS X or the Fonts. It would be nice to find out if other people could reproduce the issue in the same conditions and if they can, indicate that there is a compatibility issue. Otherwise we can ignore this bug.
This bug was reported using a version of Firefox that security and stability updates are no longer provided for. All users are strongly encouraged to upgrade to Firefox 3 by selecting 'Check for Updates' in the Help menu or by going to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/firefox.html If you can no longer reproduce this bug using the latest Firefox 3.0.x version, please change the status of this bug to 'RESOLVED' 'WORKSFORME'. If you can still reproduce this bug, please provide additional details to help resolve this issue.
No reply, INCOMPLETE. Please reply if you can still reproduce this bug with Firefox 3.5.3 or later in a new profile with the latest plugins (flash, quicktime, java, etc.).

I no longer have access to that browser and since 3.5.x is the current release, where this issue does not appear to be present, I will now mark it as WORKSFORME.
