User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.7) Gecko/20070914 Firefox/2.0.0.7 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.7) Gecko/20070914 Firefox/2.0.0.7 Loading time might be the largest single issue some people have with Firefox. A simple preloader was built but it causes problems, esp. w/ upgrades, b/c it keeps the browser running all the time. Simply adding a command-line switch "-quit", "-preload", or similar would allow people to preload FF when their OS starts up (e.g., Startup folder), while not leaving Firefox running. If FF sees this switch, it starts up as normal and then exits itself. Personally it would be fine with me if I saw the window open and then close (you could set a timer that sends an exit event if need be). XEmacs does this with the "-kill" switch. I would think this would be relatively simple to implement, producing a simple near-term solution for this problem that might even lead towards long-term solutions, b/c now external programs could more easily preload FF. Likely this could even be done in a point release rather than a major release. Of course, I do not know the code base, so it may be more difficult than I would expect. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Product: Firefox → Toolkit
