Details
Right now (Lightning .7), the Calendar icons (e.g. Toolbar. Event Dialog) do not fit to the default look. For being a good citizen Lightning should adopt the style toward 1.0

For clarification: Do you just want to adopt the Lightning theme or also adopt the Sunbird theme? At least for win32 and linux we could contact Arvid Axelsson <http://arvidaxelsson.se/> creator of the Thunderbird 2 theme and ask if he's interested in creating/supporting a Lightning/Sunbird theme.

Thanks for the pointer. I'll contact Arvid. Adopting both would be great, if the amount of work doesn't rise to much.

Probably we should also go through all the different icons and decide about whether or not the symbol used really fits the meaning. This idea came up during the discussion in bug 379174.

The patch in Bug 327780 already has a new toolbar image with some icons changed. Is it planned to update all other icons and images too? For example the Lightning icon, the preference dialog icon, the alarm dialog icon, the remaining toolbar icons etc.?

IMO we need to head into that direction. I want to continue working on the icons after .8 release.
