Allow user to specify a list of URLs (with wildcards allowed) to be redirected.  I suggest the list be taken from a local file containing "redirect" statements in the same format as an ".htaccess" file; in effect, this local file would behave as if it existed as ".htaccess" on every site I visit.  (".htaccess" on the actual site should still work, but if there's duplication, mine should trump theirs.)

The point of doing this, at least for me, would be to let me disable unwanted images such as ads from doubleclick.net and videos from YouTube by redirecting them to retrieve a dummy file from my own computer.

Why do you want to redirect them instead of blocking them ?
This would be good for an extension but not generel in the base Firefox but there are already better extensions like http://adblockplus.org
