User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322) Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; da; rv:1.8.1.9) Gecko/20071025 Firefox/2.0.0.9 After I installed this version of firefox, both my laptop and m desktop used between 90-100% CPU load on firefox, constantly, while they normally only use between 0% and 5%. Alse there is another bug, I don't know if they are combined. If I have several tabs open, after a cpl. of minutes one of the tabs freeze, and then I can't open that tab. Only leave it be or close it. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Update Firefox 2. Open a cpl. of tabs, and surf the INet for some time 3. Watch the CPU load of the computer Actual Results: The collerfans in my computer runs at full speed, and all system processing runs very slowly. Expected Results: I think I have made my point :)
Does this also happen in Safe Mode <http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode_(Firefox)> ? If it doesn't, then it might be related to one of your extensions.
Wow - I did a search for this ages ago because since the update to 3.5 Firefox has been as dodgy as a used car salesman. And Thunderbird as well. All of the above has happened since the update. Looking at the dates of the above message I can promise it is very recent. I get what I can only describe as a 'cache overload'. THe memory usage which - right now is about 129,000 plus, (with 4 tabs open) will skyrocket to something along the lines of 866,000 PLUS....that's a number that I remember from yesterday. Bogs the computer down and freezes constantly. Yesterday I did an AVG virus scan in Safe Mode, with no visible virus problems. I also run Threatfire but cannot run that it seems, in Safe mode. I did a complete rebuild of the computer last year, uninstalled Firefox 3.5 and installed a newly downloaded 3.0 and it still happens. Thunderbird has the annoying habit of hiccuping and re-downloading emails and attachments from 12 months or more ago. While they probably shouldn't even be on the server still, many of these mail messages have been read and deleted and emptied from trash within a couple of days of receiving. The other interesting thing that is happening, very peculiar, is that when trying to open Internet Explorer which will only open to a home page. Where Firefox comes into the mix is when you go to click on a link in Internet Explorer or type in a new web address, it opens a window in Firefox to show the results. As far as I can tell - there are no viruses - virii - on this computer. It is scanned regularly. Threatfire runs constantly shouting out it's alerts if there is a problem. I really don't want to rebuild the computer again as it takes me forever not being an IT person and there's always an essential personal file I forget to make a back up of. :-S Now, since the scan in safe mode, with a few files 'fixed', namely plugins for paint shop pro, firefox is freezing the entire system, not just itself, more than ever.
This bug was reported on Firefox 2.x or older, which is no longer supported and will not be receiving any more updates. I strongly suggest that you update to Firefox 3.6.3 or later, update your plugins (flash, adobe, etc.), and retest in a new profile. If you still see the issue with the updated Firefox, please post here. Otherwise, please close as RESOLVED > WORKSFORME http://www.mozilla.com http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+mode
