User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.9) Gecko/20071025 Firefox/2.0.0.9 Build Identifier: version 2.0.0.9 (20071031) Go here for the screen cap that sums it all up: http://www.mattfische.com/tmp/clip1.jpg I was searching for mail: -With attachment -Date is after 7/9/2007 -Date is after 10/9/2007 Thunderbird returned results back to 2005, which is about as old as my mail gets. I DID have "Match all of the following" selected. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Search for mail, using 2 dates (is after & is before) 2. 3. Expected Results: Obviously, it should not return mails that are outside the date range.
> -Date is after 7/9/2007 > -Date is after 10/9/2007 Does it mean you specified "7/9/2007" or "10/9/2007" in message filter? What will happen when you specified date in "yyyy/mm/dd" format in message filter?
Sorry, that's a typo: - Date is after 7/9/2007 - Date is before 10/9/2007 When I use the format you specified (which is not used in the US), I get 0 matches. Note, at least the US version of Thunderbird and I add a "Date" to the search, it defaults to today's date in "US format" which is MM/DD/YYYY. Check the URL for the screen cap and you can see what I did when the bug was discovered.
UPDATE: The search that I tried WORKS FINE when I do not search Sent messages. I think that Thunderbird is keying on something like the received date maybe (which would be unset for Sent mail).
(Off-Topic) (In reply to comment #2) > Check the URL for the screen cap The URL is not accessible. Intranet server? > C:\>ping www.mattfische.com > Ping request could not find host www.mattfische.com. Please check the name and t ry again. When external data for problem analysis is required, attaching the data file to bug via link of "Add an attachment" is useful.

(In reply to comment #3) > UPDATE: The search that I tried WORKS FINE when I do not search Sent messages. > xxx@gmail.com POP3? Or Gmail IMAP? Does your problem on Sent folder occur when Message filter, View criteria, Saved search(search folder, virtual folder) too? Is your problem re-produced with latest trunk nightly?
- POP3, not Gmail - Not sure about the second question, I have no idea what all that is. I did a simple "Search Messages". - Not sure on latest nightly. The bug site says "get the latest nighly and use a new profile" and with a new profile, I won't have any saved sent mail except for ones I send right now (which would negate the usefulness of a search).
I have the same problem, but as you noticed, it's only on "sent" messages. I think you're right... the "date filter" is searching a received date field and not the message date. Since the sent message doesn't set a receive date it fails. I think the filter should use the same date value displayed. If nothing else, that would prevent strange results. Robert
WFM over here, latest linux trunk. Have you set mailnews.use_received_date to true? I suppose that could cause this.
just checked use_received_date.. it was false, set it to true same issue. This really works for you? You can do a search for all messages after 2/1/2008 in your SENT folder and not get messages older than that?
Yes (all younger messages than that though, of course). Maybe it's only fixed on trunk. You can try a build from here: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-trunk/
I just tested on 2.0.0.21 (20090302) and this works fine now. I'll copy my profile and try the trunk and try the trunk later today... (profile is 3GB :) )
tested fine with the trunk. 3.0b3pre (downloaded on 2009-06-13)
WFM based on Robert's comment.
