Details
Seen using Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9b1) Gecko/2007110903 Firefox/3.0b1. STR: 1. Customize toolbar and add an icon in between the URL bar and the search bar. 2. Try to resize the search bar. Expected: I can resize the search bar. Actual: I can only resize the URL bar. I checked Win Vista and this works as expected there following the same steps.

You can actually make the search bar smaller, but you cannot increase the size in this situation.
Summary: [Mac] Search resizer doesn't work if toolbar icon is in between URL bar and search bar → [Mac] Search resizer doesn't work correctly if toolbar icon is in between URL bar and search bar

Wow, this confused me mightily, until I saw the 2007110903 part, since 20071115 was the first nightly where the scheme you reported on, with a separate resizer, was replaced with the current scheme of just not having a resizer if there's anything between them. This WFM because the code it objected to doesn't exist anymore, not being able to resize at all when there's an icon between the two is bug 403959.
