Have same problem. Uninstalled Java as best as possible. No luck. Send the report to Microsoft and when looking for their message, get another error message from XP indicating that the return message is not what XP is looking for. BYW, I do not know what version I am using, cannot get program to open to check version number. This happened after the last autoupdate, last week I think. How do you start the program in safe mode?
Eureka!!! I now have Firefox back and up. Ugly, but it worked. Uninstalled Ver.3.x, cleaned the rigistry with Fix-It-Utilities and restarted to computer to insure that all of the changes took. Then, I downloaded Ver2.xx.18 and I am typing this reply on Ver. 2. Had no problems until the patch for 3. 04 came along. Is it possible to selectively install patches? (disable the auto download and install feature). Thanks for the info on starting the program in safe-mode. Jim King Las Vegas, NV (USA)

Jim, can you install Version 3.0.5 in a new directory, and see if this bug still occurs in Safe Mode? If not, please close as WORKSFORME.
