I updated Thunderbird. when I started it, my mail folders were Intact BUT THE ENTIRE CONTENTS OF MY INBOX (ABOUT 80 MESSAGES!!) ARE NOW TOTALLY GONE. MY INBOX IS EMPTY!

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.restarted thunderbird
2.
3.
Actual Results:
cannot reproduce

Expected Results:
inbox still empty

it should NOT have deleted my inbox when it performed the automatic update!!!!!!

I need to know if my inbox can be recovered. If not, I clearly need a new mail program.

I've been using Thunderbird since it was new..this is an absolute disaster. critical information is GONE.
It's possible the mail is still there.
Read http://kb.mozillazine.org/Disappearing_mail

And you didn't just set the inbox view to only display unread mail?
is this dupe bug 395065 (along with bug 402448)?
unless is just a view setting (that makes it not profile issue..)

also, bruce, please do tell if tried any solutions in link in comment 1 and if that clears things out
=> incomplete due to no response from reporter (I do hate to close a dataloss bug, but without more information...)
