A government site I use only allows Internet Explorer. When I enter the site into the IE browser bar, it opens the window in Firefox. I have changed the default browser to IE and not Firefox it still opens in Firefox. Bottom line ... when I want to use IE, Firefox won't let me. I prefer Firefox, but sometimes you just have to use IE ... help!
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open IE
2. Type in https://wawf.eb.mil
3. Window opens in Firefox
Actual Results:
Website opens in Firefox, not IE. So, I opened IE, and in the Google bar, typed https://wawf.eb.mil and it opened properly.
Expected Results:
When I open IE, I do it for a reason. Though I suggest to all IE specific sites to offer Firefox, sometimes IE has to be the one.
Let me use IE if that's my choice for a particular site. Personally, I much prefer Firefox and about 95% of the sites I use are Firefox friendly. I think you can be gracious enough to give IE 5%, don't you?

That's very strange. Does it only happen for "https" sites? Perhaps you could try first setting IE as your default browser, and then going back to Firefox and setting it as the default browser again. Going back and forth like that might correct any registry entries that are mixed up.

Gavin, it does not only do it with https: sites. And, I did reset my default to IE and Firefox still refuses to "let go."

Elizabeth, could you please verify what version of IE you are using?
Also, please confirm that IE is indeed the default Internet application using the following steps:
1. Open IE
2. Click on the Tools menu and select Internet Options
3. Click on the Programs tab
4. Check the box "Internet Explorer should check to see if it is the default browser"
5. Click OK and close IE
6. Restart IE
It should request to be set as the default browser at this point, if it is not already done.
If it doesnt, try having Firefox set itself as the default browser, then letting IE take it back.
Also, make sure you are using the latest version of Firefox (2.0.0.11).
I cannot reproduce this bug using these steps.

Cannot reproduce using Firefox 3.5.x (default browser) and IE7.
Just FYI, actually the homepage shows this message:
"Help us help you. We are in the process of re-engineering WAWF to improve ease of use and efficiency of operation. As part of that process, we are soliciting input from the user community on how we can make it better. Please participate in our study below to help us.
https://wawf.questionpro.com/ "
So contacting them for a better cross-browser compatibility maybe a good idea.

This bug was originally reported on Firefox 2.x or older, which is no longer supported and will not be receiving any more updates. I strongly suggest that you update to Firefox 3.6.6 or later, update your plugins (flash, adobe, etc.), and retest in a new profile. If you still see the issue with the updated Firefox, please post here. Otherwise, please close as RESOLVED > WORKSFORME
