User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9b1) Gecko/2007110904 Firefox/3.0b1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9b1) Gecko/2007110904 Firefox/3.0b1 Installed 3.0b1 with no issues; already had a firefox 2.0x install in place. When the browser was launched after install was complete, the Welcome page has text that says "Click on the close button on this tab to go to your home page". However, there is no close button on any tab (or any other). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Visit url http://en-us.www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.0b1/whatsnew/ Actual Results: Where text says "Click on close button on this tab", there is no close button on any tab Expected Results: Close button should have been available I suspect that if I had done a clean install, the tab close buttons would have been present. Since I updated an existing install and 2.0 defaulted to close buttons not present, perhaps that setting was retained instead of overwritten?
do you have some tab management extension installed? check in about:config the value for browser.tabs.closebuttons, set it to 1 (default)

Summary: initial 3.0b1 welcome page points to nonexistent close button → Can't see the tabs closebuttons after install of 3.0b1
The value was set to "3". Setting to 1 did enable the per-tab close buttons. The extensions I have installed are foxmarks and adblock+. However - changing that value kick-started my memory. When upgrading to FF 2 from FF 1.5, I was annoyed at the changeover to per-tab, so I tweaked that value back to using a single close button on the right. Based on that, I would say that this is a non-issue; however, there will be a very small percentage of the userbase who has done something similar, and will be greeted with an incorrect Welcome page. I don't know that it's significant enough to do anything about...
yes, this is trivial... but since you have changed a tab behaviour you already know how tab management works, so the wrong "tab close" advise will not confuse you as an expert user.

Summary: Can't see the tabs closebuttons after install of 3.0b1 → initial page refers to "close tab" button even if it has been deactivated in config
Yes, that makes sense. Even when I saw it my reaction was not, "Huh? What do I do now?" but rather, "Why is it saying I should have a close button on the tab when it's on the right?" A minor point of confusion that will only happen for the small minority of users who already know what they're doing.
