The help page listing Keyboard Shortcuts says that both Ctrl-W and Ctrl-F4 should close the tab (Ctrl-F4 still works). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Press Ctrl-W Actual Results: Nothing appears to happen. Expected Results: The current tab should close.
I tested this with the latest trunk on Windows XP but couldn't reproduce this. Please retest in safe-mode to exclude extension or theme problems. I tested in safe-mode with add-ins disabled and Ctrl-W worked fine. Afterwards, retesting in normal mode, Ctrl-W started working properly. I can therefore no longer reproduce this issue.

This bug is almost six years old, but I still experience this problem. Control+w very often does not work to close a tab. It is hard to give exact instructions how to reproduce this bug since it appears to happen randomly (and often). Please just try to use control+w while opening and closing many tabs - I am sure you will see this problem.
This bug is as bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=409155 I now working with firefox version 20.0.1, and still experience the same problem. It seems to me that when viewing a webpage which contains a video, ALT+W has a less probability to respond. I hope that this bug will be fixed during my life time.
