User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.9) Gecko/20071025 Firefox/2.0.0.9 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.9) Gecko/20071025 Firefox/2.0.0.9 i have been a Firefox user for a few years now, and up until a few months back, had no issues to speak of, but recently, well. Firefox started doing some funky stuff (screen closes briefly and re-opens with my colors at a low resolution). After some browsing and questionning, i decided to look at the properties... and well, it says it is running for the Windows NT OS... i've had Windows XP on this laptop since the day i bought it.. i have tried uninstalling and re-installing, failed. Uninstalling, cleaning the registry and re-installing. another fail. Could i get some sort of resolution to this issue? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. double click on Firefox and it does it every time 2. 3. Actual Results: the screen closes for a few seconds, returns to a low color resolution Expected Results: open normally

XP is an NT based os. It sounds like you're running in some sort of compatibility mode though. Right click on the firefox shortcut -> properties -> compatibility none of these options should be checked. If that isn't the problem, please seek further support troubleshooting the issue http://mozilla.com/support and feel free to report back

Benoit, please report whether this was the cause as soon as you are able to. We are considering removing the user set compatibility mode on installation and whether this was the case in your instance will help us determine whether it is worth the effort.

Per bug 405564 comment #1 was followed without success. Benoit, please perform the following 1. Open regedit.exe (you can do so by going to Start -> Run, typing regedit.exe, and clicking OK. 2. Select in the tree view on the left under HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Compatibility 3. Export the values by selecting File -> Export, type appcompat.reg, make a note of where the file will be save to or save it to your desktop, and click OK. 4. Attach the exported file to this bug.

Under the Layers key there is an entry named "C:\\Program Files\\Mozilla Firefox\\firefox.exe". Delete it and restart Firefox.
