That works perfectly fine on trunk and The Firefox 3.0beta1 build. You can test it if you want: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.0b1/releasenotes/ That fact that you see the characters correctly in view source is because ViewSource uses 'Osaka' as a font for Japanese text. Also see bug 240841.
