Process firefox.exe consumes 100% CPU on exit. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start firefox.exe with about:blank 2. Click File -> Exit 3. Observe the data in W2K Task Manager ( for about 15-20 seconds the CPU usage is near 100%) Actual Results: If you go to a couple of URLs (say: cnn.com www.mozilla.org www.yahoo.com Then the actual process might stop after 2 minutes. Expected Results: It shouldn't take too long to exit from the browser.

I have been seeing the same in Vista HP, taking 15-20 secs or more to fully close. I update every day, sometimes more often to hourly's. I use minimal extensions and have been using them for months now, so doubt its an extension issue. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9b2pre) Gecko/2007120605 Minefield/3.0b2pre Firefox/3.0 ID:2007120605
I am seeing the same issue with 3.0 beta 1. it never happens on 2.0.0.11. Every time I exit the program it takes 5-10 seconds before I can restart it and the CPU goes to 100% or close to it. this is the info on my build of firefox: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9b1) Gecko/2007110904 Firefox/3.0b1
An update on this - I just tried it in Firefox safe mode and the same thing happened.
That has been talked about several times before - it's mainly the "expiration" (cleanup) code that runs in the Places database. There are several bugs with improvements, some of them already finished (like bug 407124, just checked in today), others still being worked on.
problem gone now that bug 407124 is fixed?

I think it is not fixed. A process is left during 10~15seconds after shutting down Firefox. Meanwhile, no message such as "During shut down, Please wait for a while." is shown on a screen. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-us; rv:1.9pre) Gecko/2008051206 Minefield/3.0pre

do you see this in FF 3.1* or current 3.0? * http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html (reporter's email address comes back as user unknown)
