Hello,

i'm a native haitian creole speaker and i'd like to start the translation of the mozilla project inside the community into my native language.
I've seen in Launchpad project that there are contributors (also in wikipedia projects, wikimedias, wiktionaries : http://ht.wikipedia.org/, http://incubator.wikimedia.org/, http://www.masterches.net/diksyone/)

I'm programming into several languages and i'm a webmaster also.
I'd like so to contribute to mozilla projects, in particular Firefox projects.

Hi, thanks for your interest.

Firstly, can we get a real name of yours? We'll need one for the final cvs account anyway, so why not start with that?

Have you read http://wiki.mozilla.org/L10n:Localization_Process yet, in particular the sub page focussing on new localizations, http://wiki.mozilla.org/L10n:Starting_a_localization?

There's http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Creating_en-X-dude, too, which talks a bit more about how to create a localization from scratch.

Given that Haitian creole has French origins, would it make sense to start off of the French localization? In that case, we'd had to modify the instructions a bit for you. I'll CC some members of the french team here, too.

Hi masterches:

Due to the lack of recent activity on this bug, we are going to resolve it as "incomplete".  If you choose to restart translation activity, then no problem at all.  Please notify the l10n-drivers team using the l10n mailing list ([e-mail]) and file a new bug in Bugzilla.  That bug should indicate that you are interested in translating the upcoming version of Firefox, which is 3.1 right now.

sorry for this lack of activity, studies, ending ..

As a reply to Axel Hecht, Haitian Creole has its proper specificities inorthography and pronounciations; its origin are not only french, they are also african and some linguists would say mainly african due to the construction of sentences, grammary and other stuff.
It'd be normal that we get a proper localization.
The name of the language is Haitian and is known as haitian creole.

That's fine.  If you intend to start a localization effort (maybe you do), then just file a new registration bug with the intention of participating in the release that is closest to when you think you'll be able to commit the most effort.  Right now, we are gearing up for the 3.1 release.  If you think you can make that, then please file a new bug.

i'll start the complete effort next week for one week and will completely involve myself after september, 3rd (exams :-) ).
Have we got some date for the 3.1 release ?
I've yet started the localization of some modules into haitian creole and most of them could be translated by the end of september.

i'll take again information about localization submission, i didn't understand the right way to submit easily to the mozilla team or to a CVS account.

Thanks for offering to pick up the work again.  A final release date for Firefox 3.1 has not been established, so you do have a some time to work on your translation.  Understanding the process and getting "up to speed" will take some time and effort, but we are here to help.  Please work on your translation, ask us questions along the way, and stay in touch.  We'll work with you, but it will take effort to learn the process.  

First order of business is to pick up the translation again.  When you have started to get close to finishing, you can file the new registration bug for Firefox 3.1.
