My location bar is small because I prefer to have more buttons on my toolbar and I have no widescreen. Problem is, that although there is enough space to show the autocomplete, this pop-up has the same width as the space I allocated to the locationbar.
That's an effect I was able to see while testing the fix on bug 447571. The location bar shrinks to a really small input box. The URL is completely hidden.

not exactly an enhancement, could be considered a bug, even if minor since affects a really small amount of users.
