I have a bookmarks file that I want to import. I deleted my places.sqlite and started firefox, confirmed that I had no bookmarks, just some default folders created. When to import from file, chose the file and all that happened is the "Smart Bookmarks" folder was created (which doesn't exist in the html file). Then do the same import again and the Smart Bookmarks folder goes away and the real bookmarks from the file appear. This is reproducable with the html file I have, haven't attempted with any other.

Attached file Example file to import
This is an example file that demonstrates it. To reproduce, get a fresh profile then delete the places.sqlite and bookmarks.html files from it so you start up with no bookmarks, then try to import.

Haven't seen dupes, this is an edge case (that we really should reconfirm) it seems. Minusing.

looks like this could be WFM with latest changes. i can import first time, and imported bookmarks end up in bookmarks menu. resolving, but feel free to reopen if you can reproduce or add any new detail on the issue. Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h". In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows: Tools | Message Filters Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New" Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h Change the action to "Delete Message". Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top. Click OK. Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter. Gerv
