This and many more web pages can pop up while the pop-up blocker is on. The pop-up's that get through are not on the "allow list".

You need an option in your pop-up blocker to Report Pop-up's that are not blocked. Many times pop-ups get through on many different computers at many different IP addresses. This is a consistent problem, but is not always reproducible with specific web sites. Example, I can hit the link for my inbox for hotmail and this link comes up: http://wixawin.com/ca/ads/iphonepin.aspx?token=951102056c7be7a616f726a2deccee9b467.1275.6349._._.6985::63227::::::be70a50df3d214c05cc7916892c2d1b8::N03OCAHBZ-FCnRSBsAAl&&login=672125&mediaid_prefix=005&asked_billing_id=2&time=312e3337&
Then I try it again and it doesn't happen.

Then I try to sign up for this service and another pop-up comes up: http://scanner2.malware-scan.com says: stuff about trying to get me to do a complete scan, then when I click on the "x" to close the window, it goes to this web site: http://scanner2.malware-scan.com/3_swp/scan.php?cmpname=glcmprt&gai=gsfcb_ron&gli=5658&gff=gs_241284141&ex=5&ed=2&eu=http%3A%2F%2Frocktheads.com%2F%3Fcmpname%3Dbrcexpp%26gai%3Dgsfcb_ronexx51%26gli%3D5658%26gff%3Dgs_241284141&al=&cmpname=null&aid=gsfcb_ron&lid=5658&affid=gs_241284141&mt_info=4426_3436_12055

So the pop up can enter script or something to open another window with their web site when you try to close the window in the normal manner (I did not try to close it with alt+F4.)

My goal here is for you to develop a pop-up report system that users can use to report pop up windows that can fool your blocker so you can improve your blocking system.

Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Surf around the net to common sites
2. Wait until a pop up comes
3. Rinse and repeat if needed
Actual Results:
The adds are normally for things like virus scans, emoticons, screen savers, or any random stuff that novice internet users would be fooled into clicking.

Expected Results:
Depending on the cause, you will have similar results as I get, but if it is caused by spyware that you don't have, then I guess it will not happen for you. I am sure if you ever used firefox, then you will have seen what I am talking about.

Good luck, and please make a tool so we can easily report pop-ups by copying and pasting the URL into a space and hitting enter.

Thanks again.
That second link is not a real popup. It's a fake window, displayed inside the original page. That's why clicking on what you thought was the close-button, didn't work at all. And the "scanning" part is also pure fake (it "found" a Win32 trojan an my PowerPC Mac, go figure).

Firefox is not able to block that, exactly because they're not popups at all.

Now, Firefox 3 will contain malware-protection, in cooperation with google (just like the phishing protection) : <http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2007/06/firefox-3-will-include-malware.html>. I hope that these particular page will also be included.
It's a common problem. Here's another site:

Technically I think it's a sticky rather than a true pop-up. But sticky blockers don't work on it.
Severity: normal → S3
