Sometimes when you browse the web the location bar background is yellow and sometimes it is white. There is no explanation in the IU why, nor is the background linked to any UI element which gives further explanation. In Firefox 2 there was a padlock icon, which was vaguely linked to the background color change. Bug 383183 removed the padlock and replaced it with an identity indicator. Bug 395248 then removed the identity indicator. This resulted in removing the padlock without replacing it with anything.

I guess the yellow background was a visual help to notice the padlock, and it makes no sense when the padlock is gone.

I believe this will be covered by bug 406612. The current plan looks like expanding the favicon identity button with the domain name for domain-validation certs, and with the org name for EV certs.

I would love to have had a little Larry in there though (dancing through various states).
attachment 291241 [details] [diff] [review] gives something for the background color to relate to, but it still it does not make a visual connection as far as I can tell from the code (I haven't tried the patch).
