User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9b2) Gecko/2007121014 Firefox/3.0b2
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9b2) Gecko/2007121014 Firefox/3.0b2

Starting with Beta 1, the add bookmarks dialog (both from the "star" in the location bar or the menu) showed only the following items: Bookmarks Menu, Bookmarks Toolbar and only one of my folders. Also, it did not have the dropdown arrow to access other folders.

Because of that, I couldn't add bookmarks to the right folders. My workaround was to add bookmarks to the Bookmarks Menu, then use organize to move the bookmark to the appropriate folder.

This may NOT be a real issue because my gut says that there was some sort of corruption in my bookmarks. The reason I say this is because when I went into Organize Bookmarks, there were TWO items that said "Bookmarks Menu" If I renamed one of them to "Bookmarks Menu 1" then both of them got the new name.

I thought it was just a Beta 1 thing, but it continued into Beta 2.

I tried just exporting and re-importing, but that didn't help.

Here's how I fixed the issue...and now I can add bookmarks properly --
1) I exported my bookmarks.
2) I imported them into Safari.
3) I created a new profile in Firefox.
4) I imported Safari's bookmarks.

I just noticed that the same problem has come back with the bookmarks -- even with me using a new profile. So briefly, I had a full featured add bookmarks dialog, but now it's back to only showing options for bookmarks menu, bookmarks toolbar and unfiled bookmarks, but with no way of opening up the list of folders.
this works for me with a nightly build from 2007-12-28.

Bart, the duplication of the Bookmarks Menu may be a clue. How did that happen?
Please try to reproduce with a clean profile. Then see if you can track your steps to reproduce.
Ok, I think I found out what the issue is -- it doesn't have anything to do with profiles.

The Proto Theme -- the one designed for the Mac seems to be the culprit. If I switch to the default Firefox theme, then the Add Bookmark dialog box works fine (has the down arrow that opens the list of folders). But when I switch to the Proto theme, the arrow disappears.
Summary: Add Bookmarks did not allow me to expand my bookmarks folders → [Mac] Add Bookmarks did not allow me to expand my bookmarks folders with new Proto theme
The Proto theme is no longer the supported Firefox mac theme. Switch to the default theme in Firefox 3 nightly builds to see the current proto-based theme and all should work.

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
