Google's usenet gateway shows the message grouping as I would expect it here.

If the messages are coming in out of order, it could be bug 181446, in which case you could try using the config editor to set "mail.correct_threading" to true, download a recent trunk build, and using the folder properties dialog, rebuild the index for the newsgroup in question.
