I tried this in GMail, Google Docs and WordPress. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Log in to GMail, choose "new mail" 2. Start typing a few sentences in Chinese Actual Results: Text is updated on the screen _very_ slowly. Expected Results: Text is updated as quickly as I type. I reproduced this in the latest (23/12/2007) nightly build of both Firefox and Seamonkey (why I am posting it here). This does _not_ occur in Firefox 2 (which does have other issues with characters overlapping and so on though).
Can you try if this problem also occurs when you select "Use Style"->"None" in the View menu? Then this might be a dupe of Bug 334296.

I just tried with GMail, which looks atrocious with No Style, and it still occurs. Thanks.

Just tried, and yeah, also happens in this exact field.
We've had issues before in Cocoa Widget with excessive repainting during text entry, but I don't notice anything bad with Roman text (though I'm not the world's fastest typist), so I'm guessing there's some sort of IME issue involved here. John, Masayuki-san: do either of you see this (and should this bug move to Widget:Cocoa)?

Er, and the latest Mac build is improved the text rendering speed. Can you still reproduce it now?
I use an English locale. I just tried again with the nightly build from January 18, and the problem is still there. You don't need to type a lot, it seems to depend on the amount of text in the text entry field. If you start typing it's fast, but if you write a line, copy it five six times (to give a paragraph) then typing after that is very very slow.
No activity in 4 years, so this is incomplete. Reopen if needed.
