Mail is lost, partially or totally on almost every "move" of mails between folders. That means a mail moved from the "in folder" to any other folder is most often partially destroyed or totally lost when it is moved. This also applies to an outgoing mail that is "copied" to "sent" folder.

The cause has been isolated to the profile being placed on a Synology Diskstation DS207. All profiles, new, old, small, large, small mock profiles, they all loose data as described. When these profiles are moved back to a local disk, say D:\ the problem disappears totally.

This bug was described in detail in bugreport 405022, but there seemed no interest in this bug that destroys mail at will. Anyway, the new findings warrant a new headline, and there is no interest in the old bugreport.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Place your profile folder on a Synology Diskstation DS207 NAS
2. Move a mail from one folder to another, or send a mail out with an auto copy of that mail to sent folder.
3. In 50-90% of the cases, that mail is partially destroyed or totally lost.
Actual Results:
Total loss of data.
Then add your findings to bug 405022 instead of opening a new one but i will dupe it the other way around this time.
What do you mean with "no interest " if bug 405022 is only one month old and you have a problem that is either an edge case or a faulty NAS.

confirming based on the dupe but I bet that the device is buggy and it doesn't like the way how Thunderbird writes the profile data.

Ever confirmed: true
I can't verify that the DS207 is buggy, all I can conclude is that they don't talk very well together. But the DS207 performs very well with all other programs.
I would be inclined to believe that it is Thunderbird that does not deliver, or wait for the proper acknowledgements to arrive from the network, compared to when writing to a local disk.
I talked to Synology, who confirmed a similar problem with outlook. The new firmware v518 fixed the problem for outlook, but didn't mention Thunderbird.
However, it seems that the same fixed also works for Thunderbird, the problem has disappeared since upgrading to firmware v518.

Great that it works now and i hope it's really fixed for you.
BTW: there is no difference for Thunderbird if it writes to a local or a network disk and that means that it can't be some kind of acknowledge or write delay.
But fixed is wrong because nothing changed in Thunderbird Source, marking worksforme instead
